I have a very large piece of driftwood in my 125. I really like the piece of wood, but I am not a big fan of the color it turns my water a few days after a water change.

I was just curious, does the tannins ever stop leaching out? Will my wood eventually stop tinting my water?

yes it will. may take more than a year.

You can let it take a long time, or just boil the wood. My 135 use to have over 100 lbs of malaysian wood, and would take over a month to discolor, which my waterchanges came every week...

I actually put it in a tubin my garage and let it soak then do a 100% water change every day until they are all leached out and also when i refill it i spray and knock any loose debris off. works for me

that's what i did also for my drift wood; soaked it in boiling water in a bucket, for a week and discarded the old water every day and then refilled it with hot scolding water. In a week, the water was clear, and the wood was ready.

Here is a pic of the piece. It is in your standard 125 gallon 6 foot tank.

That would be a hell of a lot of boiling water! I did soak it in my bathtub for about 5 hours when I first got it. I think that helped a little. I think I will probably just leave it in the tank and wait it out.
