malaysian trumpet snails are usually used by people with planted tanks, as they shifts the sand or soil around in th roots of the plants. is this for the 90g?
Yes for my 90. I have serveral plants like Java fern and moss and some Auniba's. The plants are doing well so far with the Munba. The plants I have root above the substraite, I wanted the snails to move the sand around to keep stagnant pockets from forming. I guess what I'm reallly asking is if the Munba will eat the snails or will the snails take over the tank.
I have them and love them while on the other hand most people consider them pest. I don't have any in my mbuna tank yet but in my peacock/hap tank I do. The MTS "malaysian trumpet snail" have a very hard shell and my peacock & hap can't brake them. I have thrown a couple of small ones in my mbuna tank to see they could and they couldn't but they are only around 2".
Even though they there numbers will keep growing, they are noctunal and for the most part only come out at night. In the day they stay below the sand and you don't even know they are there (you might see a couple). One plus side of having these is free food. I just take the net as a strainer and take a scoop of sand. The sand falls through and you got free. You just have to crack the shell first unless you have a puffer fish.
As you can tell I like them. If you get them though it is really hard to get rid of them. One way that I found really effective is a pair of clown loaches. I got them thinking that they would just keep there numbers down but to my surprise they killed every last one in the tank.
