Hello everyone I recently bought Malaysian xback golden, he’s 7 inches in a 6/2/2 (plenty of free space) blackwater tank… with 2 ntt, 7 clown loaches and 2 dolphins..

the main thing is he’s not taking food suddenly.. very skittish/ spooky and i did nothing but just regular weekly water change
Tank temperature is around 31c

the tank is also a new set up just 7-10 days before I added him
And he’s the last member
So no chances of ammonia or poor water

Now what could go wrong ??

I also have a albino silver and a jardini
With same water parameters
And they’re fine

Could still be settling in. I’d try a couple different foods and if it doesn’t eat then try again in a couple days. Keep an eye on feces to rule out parasites.

he ate both dried shrimps and feeder fishes
But from last night isn’t eating
And I’ve never seen him passing stool yet

whenever i go near him
He gows from this corner to that

It going to take a 2-3 weeks to settle in nicely if your other fish is comfortable swimming freely in the open this will help your xback feel more comfortable faster and it will swim on top instead mid level like in your picture.

perfectly normal behavior for any kinds of small Arowana. It take time to settle in. Just make sure it not spook and crash in your tank decorating and get damaged.

its been 8 days now
He swims on the top most of the time
But very picky about food

May I ask about your water level?

For that young arowana best is to have the water level max. 15 inches!
