I'm interested in getting a girl for my guy...no intentions on breeding, I would just like to have something else in the tank. Has anyone kept a male and a female together successfully without problems? I don't want either to get beat up but my guy can be an ass at times, there's currently a pleco in there with him and sometimes he will leave him alone but sometimes it's game on.

Ive kept my flowerhorns , male and female , with a lexan divider between them , notched out in the top corner for the female to escape, have noticed improved color for the males and a brightness to the color of the female's , who can become dark if stressed, also the males head seems to me to become more prononced, plus a nautral interaction between the two seems to make for a condusive enviroment

Yeah, I thought of that but I would really like to keep them together without the divider. Tank is right around 100 gallons so 50 per fish just doesn't seem like much to me. :(
