Hi guys, this is my first post on this forum. I have been a fish enthusiast for over 20 years now. I am so excited to learn from you guys and meet some great people.

Now back to the reason for this post. A year ago, I purchased 2 less than 1 inch breidohri's from Jeff Raps. To my surprise I was lucky to have a male and female. The chunky male is about 3-4 inches now and is showing some nice coloration. The female is not as big and colorful but is still hanging in there. They are both in a 55 gallon tank at the moment with no other tank mates. I expected a lot more growth from these fish but have come to learn that they grow pretty slow. I do a water change about twice a month due to my hectic schedule. I am trying to get to a point where I can do a water change at least once a week. This is what I feed them:

- Omega One super veggie kelp flake food.
- Omega One Freeze Dried Bloodworms.
- Omega One Freeze Dried Plankton.
- Cichlid Gold Small pellets.

they eat really well and seem to be really health. The water conditions are fine.

I am however concerned with two things. First, I really would like to see some more colors in my male and see if there is anything I can do to get him to grow a little bit faster. Secondly, my male consistently chases the female. I am getting concerned because I really don’t want her to get hurt and stressed. I am not sure if this will stop or should I get rid of her and just keep the male by himself.

If the male is indeed by himself, would this change his activity level and personality?

Sorry for the long post but just want to get as much info to you guys as I can.

Thanks a bunch.

View attachment 867585They grow really slow!!! As a matter of fact, heres one of your guys siblings. I bought her about a year ago from Jeff as well. She went just on a bit of a growth spurt in the last month or so, grew about 3/4 of an inch and is pushing 4 inches now.

Her are some crappy pics of mine. I bought some a year ago as fry.
This one grew faster than the other two so i think it is a male.
I bought other Viejas at the same size and they grew twice as fast.
Just painfully slow growers. It is about 5" but its in a 240.
