Hi guys, this is my first post on this forum. I have been a fish enthusiast for over 20 years now. I am so excited to learn from you guys and meet some great people.
Now back to the reason for this post. A year ago, I purchased 2 less than 1 inch breidohri's from Jeff Raps. To my surprise I was lucky to have a male and female. The chunky male is about 3-4 inches now and is showing some nice coloration. The female is not as big and colorful but is still hanging in there. They are both in a 55 gallon tank at the moment with no other tank mates. I expected a lot more growth from these fish but have come to learn that they grow pretty slow. I do a water change about twice a month due to my hectic schedule. I am trying to get to a point where I can do a water change at least once a week. This is what I feed them:
- Omega One super veggie kelp flake food.
- Omega One Freeze Dried Bloodworms.
- Omega One Freeze Dried Plankton.
- Cichlid Gold Small pellets.
they eat really well and seem to be really health. The water conditions are fine.
I am however concerned with two things. First, I really would like to see some more colors in my male and see if there is anything I can do to get him to grow a little bit faster. Secondly, my male consistently chases the female. I am getting concerned because I really dont want her to get hurt and stressed. I am not sure if this will stop or should I get rid of her and just keep the male by himself.
If the male is indeed by himself, would this change his activity level and personality?
