How many male convicts is acceptable in a 40 gallon Breeder, tank has gravel bottom, plenty of hiding spots, Aqua clear 70 and 110 hob, wave maker, and a heater. I do weekly water changes of at least 40 percent. Your guys advice is appreciated.

If more than 1 male atleast 4 to spread aggression among them. Tbh I personally would do this in only a longer aquarium. E

Might be able to get 4 males to coexist in there. But definitely not without risk. As juveniles will probably work out, full grown adults, it is a crap shoot depending on the individual personality of your fish. Most likely, there will be casualties at some point, and as such, not really advisable.
Might look at doing a group of a less aggressive amatitlania species, such as nanoluteus, or myrnae
