Hello everyone. I just bought 2 pairs of male electric blue jack Dempsey and female regular jack Dempsey. Each pair is housed alone in their own 37 gallon tank. All fish are about 2 inches. How long do you all think I can get away with this? I have about 4 months until I move in which upgrades will be made.

I got mine at about 1.5in, same as you a male EB and normal female. They are in a 55gal and gained about 1/2in per month. Till they hit 3in, then the female slowed down and the male gained some ground.

Here is a current shot of them.

Jack&Jill He's is 5in, she is 4.

So if yours get the same rate in 4 months they will be like 4in for the male and 3in for the female. My female stopped growing for two months @3in. So that ain't all that big for a 37, so long has you have lots of hides and good filtration, and lots of water changes, it do 50% every three days on that tank.

I honestly couldn’t have asked for better information. I wanted someone who had gone through the experience and knowing the way yours went makes me feel okay about the 37 gallon at least for a few months until I upgrade. Thank you for the peace of mind :)

Also. You’re Dempseys are gorgeous. Have they bred yet?

They may have and I didn't see the eggs before they got eaten by them or the pleco and catfish that was in there. Now it's only them and some Bloodfin tetras. Got my figures crossed.

Both your Dempseys look to have great genetics and will make some nice fry

The internet says they hit sexual maturity at six months. November was the 6 month mark of me having them. So anytime now.
I will say they like to hide more than other fish, and mine like dimmer lights. Also try to keep them in a low traffic area, mine don't like walk by's very much.
Otherwise they do all the flashing to each other and the like.

Thank you for the compliment.

Babies soon yes they really are very skittish creatures. You’re welcome though. Keep the updates coming though on the lovebirds!
