I had a new male fenney get beat up pretty bad by his mate. He was scaled badly and his fins torn, ut was swimming and acting lucid when placed him in a tank by himself. Today at lunch when the lights came on he was upside down (a really bad sign) but still breathing. I messed with him some and left him alone for a few minutes. When I came back in he had righted himself and was still breathing, and not really labored. I treated the tank with Melafix and salt last night to reduce infections, but he is really beat up. He does move his eyes around like he is seeing and focusing on things. I hope that him righting himself is a good sign but it surely seems he has taken a turn for the worse since I put him in the tank by himself last night.
