So I picked up a group festae and started growing them out. This is the biggest, feistiest, and most colorful one of the bunch. I originally (And still do) thought this was a male from the amount of spangling. He also resembled my larger male as he grew up. But lately he's been flaring with the other fish of his size mainly the 2 pictured Guttalatum and midas. When ever he does so his bars come out and ive noticed the black dorsal fin is very pronounced like a female festae. This may just be my wishful thinking in that I ultimately want a nice female but I just wanted a more expert opinion. The first 4 pics is his everyday look and the last 4 are the flaring pics. Hes about 3.5 inches. Somehow after loading the pics the order got screwed up. So pics 1,3,4,7 are his normal look and pics 2,5,6,8 are the flaring pics. Let me know what you guys think. Thanx.

wow great pics of that lil guy:) nice colors already too!! I agree on it being early but i think you may have been right the first time with male... looks alot like my males do and did my two largest at 5-5.5" are giving me the tranny look with their bars fading into their dorsals lol. but either way very nice festae and we'll see what happens in another month or two.

Looks male to me but you know as well as I do that they can fool you. I say male based on the spangles and behavior you describe

Thanx for the input everyone. I think its a male but I'm hopeful its female. Hey freebyrd, hows my old male festae? Ive seen you've acquired a nice collection since then. Post some pics.

Still to early.

OMG what a beautiful fish!!
It's really too early but I think like you, that he's male.
I hope for you it's female.
