male fh with dorsal spots

nope, not rare at all. male FHs/trimacs can have a spot or 2 on the dorsal fin.

i think its not rare :)
 
with trimacs, the female will usually have a big black blotch in the dorsal fin and males don't. with flowerhorns a black dorsal blotch doesn't necessarily mean female. being hybrids, fh's can show traits of whatever different species they're a mix of. usually though, if say 1/3 to 1/2 of the dorsal is black then there's a really good chance it's female. :thumbsup:
 
From what I was told before, the newer flowerhorn strains out there now , have so many different strains in them that if your male FH has a double row flowerline, the flowerline might leak into the dorsal fin , showing a spot or 2 but he is still a male only with a dorsal spot because of his double row flowerline, hope that helps :)
