Female is wild caught and maybe 8 inches. Male is captive breed and maybe 5 inches. Went away on the weekend came back sun and the male is all chewed up on his edges. I seperated them now. Is this normal because she is bigger and older or is she just a beotch. Both are motoro's.

Hungry rays are more agressive then saturated rays especially if they cant get out their way wich is hardly possible. Hope you put out the undamaged animal!
I head a female when that beotch when she was pregnant was so greedy that she fought all other rays in the tank to be first at the food. She was biting and wrestling the other rays. Did they get food when you went away??

Just put a divider in the tank for now. They are both fat and fed well on mostly pellets and smelts. Only went one day without food. Would she be reaching maturity? They were always fine for the last three months but recently i noticed her topping him alot and being bigger he has a hard time getting out from under her.

She might bully him around?? Most rays are kept in to small tanks! This behaviour is agitated if the space to small the fish are living in. Its a missbehaviour dont know of any other reason why a female bites a male .Competition of space and food.

^^agreed

The norm in my system is that any female of any species bites rays smaller then them. I constantly shuffle the females trying to keep like sized ones together.

Don't worry too much, rays have an amazing healing ability. Little salt, some food, some time and good water will heal all wounds. -FM

8" is a little small for a female motoro to be sexually mature. She's probably just bullying him. What size tank are they in?
