i'm assuming its a male but would just like it to be confirmed. Its still a little dark because it hasnt settled in just yet

I'd say that's a boy, looks like mine when he was around that size

Nice color, nice shape ,nice markings, nice male....
Here is my male in his dark color morph..
And my largest grow out @ 4 months old...posted those pics because if you zoom in you can see the pointed male genital papillae.... Of which l also see in the first pic of your little male you posted... confirming his sex .. before anyone tries to come along and burst your bubble saying its a female:)

awsome thanks! so the darkness is jsut a phase, hell go lighter eventually? i had this exact samse jag wen i he was 2 inches and was very light but i gave him to a buddy, now hes switching to salt which is why i have him again

I think as an adult that fish will not normally be that dark .... I have noted that my Jaguar cichlids have varying mood , age and sex dependent degrees and intensity of their color... I noticed my male fish has a few types of dark... a fearful type dark and a fry care type dark and one where his lateral spots are more prominent ... a few types of light... a normal light and a more colorful pre spawning light... And sometimes his lateral spots are almost gone . Also depends on what time of day.... at night the colors seem the glow more...
Here's another pic of my male in a light phase... But more significantly if you zoom in you can see that all important male thingamabob showing...once you get an eye for it you won't really have to wonder what sex .. which actually its the third pic of your fish where I see it ...along with some really nice bottom teeth sticking out..... I like the shape of your fish... Has a very male profile... Brutus is going to grow to be a very nice specimen....

I really like that light phase where you can barley see the lateral line. Really fits it's name jaguar Cichlid. I just hope my guy will be nice to my bichirs. He chases then out of his cave but doesn't bite. For now
