Can anyone tell if these angelfish are Male or Female? Thanks

Those both seem to be males, but their skulls change as they mature and those both look very young to me. You won't know for sure until their body is about 2.5-3"

Males have that distinct indension on their heads while females foreheads seem to be perfectly flat. During breeding time however, the females head forms a small hump while the males becomes nearly flat

Hope this helps

Those are very nice angels btw. They look like koi angels, am I right? I considered getting some awhile back but couldn't find them.

And if those are truly both males, then I hope you have a few females as well. I honestly don't understand why they named them angels because they do get MEAN at times lol

yes. both Koi Angels. Thank you for giving me plenty of info. At my local fish store they had a lot of these in stock and sold out fast. when i went back they had received their shipment of koi's again and they doubled the price of them =(. Now they aren't selling them as fast so i'm waiting for the price to go down a little.

How big are they and how large of a tank are they in? Along with tankamtes and how many other angels besides the two

I don't think that's a reliable way to sex angels. The Peruvian scalare blood that has been bred into a lot of domestic lines often causes the indention on the snout. I have seen both males and females with this. Also, I have bred and raised plenty of domestic male angels that didn't have a notched snout.

With angels, much like discus, the only reliable way is to wait until spawning age and observe the breeding tubes.

That is very true. Not all males have the indension and not all females have a flat head. Every now and then there are ones who break that rule. But most of the time the males do have the dent and females do have flat heads, that is the easiest way of telling, but ryansmith83 is right, the only true way to tell is to wait until their breeding season

its a 30g. theres only the 2 angels, 1 small fire tail gourami (smaller than the angels), and about 20 tetra. i will be purchasing a 60g tho this week so they can have more space. i kinda thought i crowded the tank with tetra.

If you check all the other "Sexing Angels" threads in the angelfish and discus subforum you will discover that it is impossible (lucky guesses excluded) to sex angelfish. You have to wait for the ovidepositors to come down to see who is who. A female's will be thinner and pointier where as a male's will be blunter and thicker.

The females papilla with be thick and blunt and the males will be thin and pointy. Cockroach, if what you say is true then I have a male that lays eggs and a female that fertilizes them...
