Male or Female Festae?????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you got yourself a badly colored female there. festaes have blue spangling on there fins but females usually dissapear. there is no spangling on your festae. the black dorsal also points to female but can be mimmicked by a male with deep protruding stripes into the dorsal to give it the black dorsal look. but that fish is a female

Female. But i just think from the pictures her black bars weren't showing much... But mine used to do that also i actually have a picture.

She's not badly colored, she's just in a different mood than those in full display. She's not with a male that she's interested in nor is she alpha, so you can't expect her to be in full breeding dress. Unless they are paired up or courting, you can't expect them to look their best.

Def true, I can't wait to see what she'll look like when I put a male in her tank. :)

co i can only speak for mine. mine stays bright red with deep black bars always. some festae need something to spark there colors while others do not
