It’s too soon to know, especially since female severus will have the same facial markings as the males until they start breeding.

Sounds good, what are some things I should look out for that are indicators of male vs female? Or are there no differences really?

There are no differences until they start breeding. Sometimes males have more blue faces with dark red spots where females have more yellow/green faces with lighter red spots, but in some collection locations of them the females have blue faces too. Females also grow large like males. There’s really no discernible difference until the females go into spawning mode and the faces turn solid.

Interesting guess it’ll be a mystery forever as it will never start breeding unless for some reason it breeds with my male red spot or male green haha.

All Heros except for maybe liberifer will interbreed so there’s no reason why it wouldn’t. But I wouldn’t encourage hybrids, since the captive-raised Heros are already such a mess genetically.

Typically in Severums you could try to decipher whether it's a female or male by how many marks they have near their face. But with your particular Severum it's a little to young to tell if it's a female or male even by the facial markings. Once the Severum gets about 5 1/2 - 6 Inches and more towards sexual maturity you'll tell if it's a female by either if the fish lays eggs, even if the fish hasn't had any eggs notice if the fish's anal area hangs relatively low, or sometimes by the average aggression patterns in Male or Female Severums. Keep us updated please!
