So I've been taking a real liking to my gold JD lately and at 6" I'm 90% sure he is a he.
I then remembered at a lfs they had a group of 7 or so larger JD, i rushed down to grab him a female today but was a little stumped as none had a majorly blue beard...
This one was the only one that had something of a blue chin, what you think female? around 4.5".

No, been in about an hour

I was going on the blunt almost 90deg dorsal too, most males I've seen on Google seem to have zero spangles in the bottom half of the cheek?
It is a "hmmm" one lol.

I'm leaning towards female.
I agree with Duanes though, until settled it's hard to tell.
I would expect more colour on the flanks of a male.I can also see some faint blues to the gill plate.
It could go either way but if I had to guess I would say female.

Do we agree the gold is male?
Going mainly on fin shape and fast growth rate?
Well and lack of cheek pattern but that's debatable on a gold I guess.

Again I'm with Duanes in that I'm not confident with colour morphs.
It does have a very masculine outline though.
