I know the pictures aren't that great but it's difficult to get good pictures of him/her due to being camera shy, it hides every time I pull it out, he's just over 8" and pretty stout. Ive been trying to tell from google searches but I can't really tell. Any help would be great. I'll post better pictures of I can.IMAG0094.jpg IMAG0059.jpg IMAG0060.jpg

Looks male to me. Females typically have green blotches on their cheeks.

That's what I was thinking as well the cheeks and bottom of the gill plate looked more on the male side. Just wanted some knowledgeable opinions to confirm.

Picked him up a couple months ago for 10 bucks from my small town little petstore. My wife named him monster

Jack demspeys are pretty cool fish. They can be a little shy ime. I've seen a couple mega monster jack Dempseys too. I'm sure they were a billion years old though.

The lady said she got him in a batch about a year ago at 2" he's about 8" now and still growing I'm just glad I was setting up my 125 when I ran across him. Here's his tank, his mates are another 3" Dempsey( let's hope female) hasn't got it's color, 2 5" Oscar's and a 6" common pleco.
