Kinda hard to sex JD's. My guess is female. Dorsal fin is rounded and not too much spangling throughout the body. Still kinda pale looking, prob stressed out still. Kinda young to get positive id for sex. You should be able to get a good id on sex when it grows a couple inches. Males will get more spangling through the body.
I'm prepared to nail my colours to the mast and say female. With that degree of smudges/smears on the lower operculum, I would be VERY surprised if it turned out to be male. If you need a male, take it back and try again!
I would agree with female also. The fins are rounded when the would come to long points on a male and males usually have a big black spot in the middle as juvies.
i think its still too young to tell the jacks Ive bred the females all had alot more bluish green coloring around the face and gill area than the males but I do think it would have to be a little bigger to tell
I think if you wait for a JD to reach at least 5 inches or above,it would be easier in my view to figure it out if they're male or female. This one is a male though that I own in my 125 gallon.
