Male or female Oscars

their is no visual way to tell them apart. but you can tell them apart by looking at the vent but you have to net the fish and check. thats all i know so far.
well...my old Lfs told me that the foreheads have something to do with sexing them but really I am not sure as Lfs will say just about anything..
There are people that say the tubes are one way of telling. I guess the thickness has something to do with it, Also anal fins on the femal should have more webing less rays..... this is all just hearsay and rumors though. Oscars can breed at around 6-8" I believe. Hope this helps.
Yeah...oscars can breed around 6-8, Waldo is right, I figure thats about a year old. Oscar sexing is hard. The only sure way is to see em breed or vent them. Try to look at the fishe's underside, mine are easy because they look to the top for food when I hold my hand above it. Females will have a larger hole next to a small one...something like this... oO. Males will have two holes close together of about the same small size, like this...oo. Hope that helps.
