This is my pair of texas cichlid and red blood parrot. They recently laid eggs and hatched. Im breeding red texas cichlids but im not good at sexing. The blood parrot has a longer vent then the texas. The blood parrot is also the gaurding and does all the fanning. The picture below with the long vent on the parrot was while they where laying the eggs.
Thanks very much!

Possibly yes, most will look like texas.

I Got Just A Little Blood Parrot Cichlid, Today, it’s About 3 To 4Incs.. An iv got A Texas cichlid About 6-7 Incs, an ive had my Texas cichlid in my tank with just a little pleco, now for about a month. An I added my blood parrot. Into the tank. An Now my Texas cichlid chases the parrot around Then Will Calm Down for a bit then back at it. An my little blood parrot ain’t scared!! He’ll chase him back!! And There’s no bitting or nothing. Jus my Texas cichlid is much bigger an gets my parrot stuck in places, and well start to slap up my blood parrot with it’s back fin. An it kinda disorients the Blood parrot. So I got my parrot inna little hiding spot. But my male Texas cichlid Just Swims Around the hiding area like a “shark” I don’t know the sex of the blood parrot. As I just got it today

The major differences better gender in Texas Cichlids (most Herichthys for that matter) is males have a steep profile, and females are more torpedo shaped.
Here is a male Hericthys carpintus (close cousin to a Texas)

now a female, notice how much more streamlined she is, and the dark blotch in the dorsal area
males are generally much larger, here are the same pair as above, with fry.

when spawning, the males can also develop the same colors as females.
below a male in non-spawning color

Terry, sounds like your BP is a female. Time will tell.
