Hmm seems everyone is saying male..now here's the strange part...on the other side of the divider is.....

HIM. Will 2 males show signs of breeding behavior? They will twitch while being almost on top of each other with the divider in between them. The little one will also do a tail slap, they are both also digging and moving around sand. I'm so confused.

I thought female at first glance...then i thought male.... but i'm goin with my first instinct and saying female.... i can see a silght marking on the dorsal...but as we know you cant rely on that alone...but body shape and instinct tells me female!!!!

It is possible that a female shows some male characteristics (head shape etc.) but I'm going to say male based on those two shots. Only 100% way I know of is to vent.

About 7 months ago I had two FHs divided side by side with a drilled acrylic piece so they were able to see each other clearly. I knew one was a male, and had thought the other was a female, but I was wrong....they both were males and they both were showing the same signs you described, both of them digging, both nest building, swimming side by side along the divider and tail fanning....They are two males trying to out do the other by digging a bigger hole for a better nest and showing dominance by tail fanning each other. In short, they are trying to show a potential female who can build a better nest and who is dominate......
