I have had this FH since early October 2010, I got it when it was about
2-1/2"- 3" long. Now its a little over 7" and I would love to get it a mate, but Im not sure how to sex these guys. If you cant tell in these pictures let me know and I'll take it out of the tank and get a pic of its underside. The first pics here are of the fish when I got it. The others are of it now. Since those first pics I've totally went crazy for this fh, its by far the coolest fish I've ever had. Ive taken all the black paint off the back and painted blue, re-decorated, and gotten rid of all tank mates except for a 9" or so pleco thats soon going to have a new home, the poor lil guy is getting picked on bad. He's got a 90g to himself other than the pleco and his colors are starting to come out somewhat since the re-docoration. Im in the process of getting in some Grand sumo & Grand sumo red along with some chingmix to help out in that area as well. Anyways, I'm rambling, any help you guys can give would, as always, be greatly appreciated.

Here it is in early October 2010

Low end fish, not sure male/female, actually would be nice female but not worth breeding if male. got any vent pics?

No worries, only 8 bucks. "Low/High end" means very little to me, where I'm from, your lucky to have a Flowerhorn at all. Ill post some vent pics tommorrow if need be.

x2 :)

Ok, I just took the fish out and checked it out. The area behind the anus, towards the tail is clearly u shaped, not "v" shaped, isnt this an indication of a fish being female?

Yup:D Congrats.

I think it a male, a female should have the belly full of eggs by that size!

it really depends on how she's being fed and if she's getting the proper stimulation to fill with eggs.

Get a nice male to breed with her. She is def a nice female
