Male or female?

Shy of cutting your fish open, the only sure fire way to tell is if it lays eggs. Which is tricky, since the water conditions have to be just right to trick a female into spawning.
 
Hopefully my water is not where they want it to be. Lol. Already got a slew if convict babies I'm gonna have to turn in soon.

Could always feed them to your rbp. lol
 
Are you kidding. I have pet guppies in the rbp tank now too because of all the other stuff they get fed lol. The fry being feeders was the original plan but now all they want is the shrimp and fillets.

Imo you can sex them if you know what your looking for. Females have a rounder profile in the belly. Males are flatter. Once they start they don't like to quit either.
 
2 are bigger than the other one too. That wouldn't have anything to do with it also would it?

Of all my years here only Bruner has claimed to be able to sex them with the naked eye. What he failed to mention is he breeds them and constantly sees which of his are female. I'm not saying Bruner is a liar as I've learned alot from him over the years but to 99.99% of the rest of us we can't tell. Sometimes you just have overfeed fat ones or underfed skinny ones that cause the difference in size

Everyone else will tell you it's not possible to sex them

Females will usually grow faster but each fish is differant. Some eat more than others. Some grow slower. I handpicked my rbp based on the sex of them. I actually just sold my rbp stock,& am going to be handpicking my next pairs soon. I'm going to document each fish when bought with pics & sex. Each pair will have their own tank.
