Its about 7" and I always thought it was a male.
It never had that pattern till now

I would say male based on you saying it is 7" and it still having a longer body. Not really stocky/chunky enough to be female.

Male!.. Note the pointed tips of the dorsal and anal fin. Females tend to be more rounded.
its possible to sex most new world cichlids this way? Nice fish man
