How can you tell the difference between male and female fish?

I can never tell. Is there something I can refer to?

It depends on what kind of fish

The lighter colored Jack looks possibly pregnant just wondering if they are male or female. and is the Texas Male or female?

Sorry for the crappy pictures... Usually I can take great picts.... :)

one has a penis.

The other one doesnt.

based on the not so great pics. i gonna have to say both are females, the JD's. if you could get a better shot of the dark ones gills and chest area, we can determine it for sure. the lighter JD is deffinatly a female. as for the tex, no clue i can hardly tell its a tex by that horrible pic. :nilly:

here is a pic to tell JD's:

easiest way to tell!!

Jacks can be a little tricky so I'll leave that up to somebody else.

Texas females often have a dorsal blotch (top fin) Males often have pink cheeks.
