My female Hog has a very hard time getting food in my main tank. Every time she even attempts to leave her hide in order to eat, the male chases her relentlessly and will bite her quite hard(scales fly and I can hear it). I am not sure what to do. I am worried that the male will continue this behavior and I worry the female will not get enough to eat. Breeding takes a lot of energy especially for the female so out of all the fish in the tank I want her to get fed. I have never had this problem before. My centrarchus male chases my female all the time but she is able to eat very easily. Can anyone offer any advice?

how about a divider during feeding?

I really want to avoid the use of a divider they are not what I wanted to use for this setup, plus me putting a divider in and out of the tank would make them shyer than they are. Is there maybe another solution. I have already tried separating them for week(s) at a time and that has not worked.

If he is so aggressive that you think her health might be at risk, you only have one choice: using a divider, preferably a see-through divider made of white egg-crate so that he can get used to her being around without hurting her. She will also get a break from all the breeding aggression and get a chance to heal up, maybe even put on some weight.

Putting a divider is way less stressful for them than being netted and moved around, and being in different tanks for weeks at a time might break their bond and make him even more aggressive when she is reintroduced later.

I guess I don't have much of a choice. How long should I keep them separated?
