Very nice. Have you ever considered switching his substrate over to sand?

yes I want to switch to sand in the near future, what color would you recommend? Just natural sand?

I prefer Quikrete brand pool filter sand. It’s around $7 for a 50lb bag. Requires some good cleaning before you put it into the tank, but looks excellent once it’s in. Color-wise, it’s a nice tannish brown. I’ve used it for 10+ years with great results. Additionally, your RD will love having sand, as opposed to gravel.

Okay thanks for advice are those stories about toxic gas pockets true in sand?

I’ve never encountered such a thing. Unless your pilling up 4” of sand (and never cleaning/moving it), I wouldn’t worry about it.
