Here's a single shot of my male Buffalohead with some of fry from the latest spawn.

He and the female are both wild-caught. I purchased them from WetSpot a couple years ago and once they settled in, they started breeding after every major thunderstorm that we got here. S.C. with fry.JPG

Thanks Greg, much appreciated.

I've read that most Steatocranus typically breed around the same time as a thunderstorm or heavy rainfall. Their fry have a higher chance of survival as a result of all the excess nutrients and food that's washed into the water.

This sort of instinctual behavior is really interesting to me. Especially since they're able to still detect a thunderstorm or heavy rainfall in an aquarium, inside an apartment building. Haha.

Great pic, congrats on the latest spawn and thanks for sharing. I think I will need to pick up this species as I haven't kept them yet.

Thanks Dee! They've been one of the most interesting and fun species I've ever kept.
