I found a guy moving out. In the neighborhood. He was selling his 60 gallon. He had a bucket with a huge fish in there. First thing i thought was "Please Dont let it be this fish in this small 60". I had asked him how long he had the fish he told me about 10 months friend gave it to him when he was at 3" I haven't really measured him i want him to get used to his new home. So i took the fish gave him 35 dollars for him. He was selling the tank for 100. With everything. I dont know much about these fish but I see alot of people on youtube have them in there cichlid communities. I have him in my 100 with Oscar, and jewel pair.. jag passed. I wondering should i go back in get the 60 for the syn to be by himself or maybe i can do some fish swopes and have him in a 75 with maybe a jack. Here he is. Fish is beauty. I asked they guy what was he going to do with him if no one bought. He sadi release him into a creek. Well i knew the syn would not of made it due to the water temp and its freezing. So i took him. Help and suggestions are all appreciated.

Great rescue!! Kudus!

Great rescue! Forget about the 60 as it is not wide enough. Most vieja reach 10-14in, Syns being one of the larger growing types. From the description of the seller, he doesn't sound like the best fishkeeper around. Its possible the your syn will max out on the low side of 10-12in. Sex of the fish also plays a factor. 100gal might get a little cramped with the O and syn, but give it a shot and see how it plays out. You'll def want to stay up on your water changes.

BTW, the syn looks great. Nice sharp colors.

Nice and healthy one.

They arent really killers. UNLESS u leave 2 viejas by themselve in a small tank(stronger one can bite the weaker one to death). But community most do really well and calm. My 8" Syn is the biggest and mellowest fish I have.
I can put him anywhere s long as he's the biggest.
