i like that . i just got a little one so i've been lookin for pics of the big ones . boo on the people who say they ain't good lookin .

I got him when he was about 5.5-6" long. Looked like a typical venezuelan at that size. The weird thing is, as it was growing, it developed a very light dorsal fin, leading me to think it was a female, but over the last 6 months, the dorsal has turned that dark black that you see, and his markings overall have darkened up as well.
He's surprisingly peaceful in this tank, not really picking on anyone. He can be the boss if he wants to, and most of the other fish kind of defer to him if he's focused on a piece of food, but as far as I can tell he almost never actively intimidates other fish.
The big, round, pink belly leads to believe that it is still a female... even though the bright white dorsal blaze is absent.

I am just gonna go on the assumption that its male, until I see a comparison of adult male and female ven's that can change my mind.
