Any truth to this? The reason I ask is bc my 2 female rays have 1 barb, and my 2 males have 2 barbs.... just curious if any1 else has the same thing going on or just a coincidence... Thanks

Austin

Well then there is prolly not any truth to this. I was just paying attention to them the other day and the 2 females have 1 long barb, and ironically my 2 males have to short barbs haha. Lets here about more on this, kinda interesting to see. AND is there anything that triggers a double or single barb, or just "coincidence"

Rays shed the spines every few months so at some point they will have 2 then shed one and back to 1

The amount of spines has nothing to do with male or female

sounds good, just kinda interesting, because you say that the reason they have 2 is bc they are about to shed one... I don't nessesarily think this is 100% true... the reason is bc my male hybrid is only like 3months old, and he has 2 little barbs, whereas my bigger female MM has one long barb which i believe she is about to shed, but the 2 males have 2 that are identical lengths, just smaller.

I understand sometimes when a barb is about to fall off the new barb starts coming in, maybe/probably before the old one falls off, but the 2 males that have 2 barbs have the same length of barb, so could it be said that some ray just grow 2 barbs at the same time?

:) this thread explains why my female is starting to grow another barb, guess i better start waiting for the current one to fall off.
