hey guys there is a good chance I will be getting a uro this week from a person on craigslist and I was just wondering about the diet
I have read on some sites that you should feed them collard greens and turnip greens but on others they say the two are bad for them, also I know you can feed them seeds so would a more fine budgie seed be good?
thanks in advance

also I know they like to dig so could I put some clay mixed in the sand or no?

I have never heard of collard and turnip greens bad or them but anyone correct me if I am wrong. But if in doubt any greens would be good like dandelion greens, kale, escarole, bok choy etc. For the seeds I would offer it millet. As far as the clay I would think that would be kinda of a mess to clean. In one of my tanks I use the excavator clay but it turns to be as hard as a rock.

Use dirt and sand mix it will be much more use full to the mali, it will provide it a place to borrow at the same time humdity and a temp gradient if the soil is deep enough. I had a male mali for 10 years and it was an adult when i got him. I just feed a variety of plants that were in my yard, crickets, super worms, the occasional strawberries/bananas. I also ordered Spineless Cactus online to feed to him and a couple of the tortoise species i had at the time.

yea when I said clay i ment dirt, i guess its just my accent eh

i kept mine on sand. i also kept some on bird seed. millet only, and that worked well. keep them dry and hot. to much humidity and they can get tail rot.

i fed mine veggies and greens only. i think i fed crickets 2 times when i had mine.

dandelion, collards, kale, endive, escarole, turnip and mustard greens are all good to feed. basically anything you see people feeding the plant eating herps are fine.

if I pick dandelions and freeze them would they last?

When you freeze them they loose quite a bit of the nutritional value. And they will most likely get freezer burned being so thin.

Ditto;) You can also use Hibiscus, plantain Plantagus sp, alfafa and clover. Make shure you dont pick weeds from areas that have been treated with insecticides or other contaminants. Keep a recently buyed hibiscus pot outdoors for a cople of mouths before using so to get rid of any stuff it has been pulverized with

you could try. i would try a small batch and see how that works out.

and as far as loosing nutritional value you can always buy thymine(sp) and add it to the food when you feed recently frozen foods
