Over there
I just got a baby mama pleco yesterday. From what I've researched, I believe it is Acanthicus adonis, but I'll try and get a good pic if I can. It's always hiding in the back behind driftwood. I haven't really found anything about properly caring for it though so my question is about feeding. I understand that this is a carnivorous pleco so would a diet of massivore be fine or should I still add in algae wafers? Also, how long will it take for it to start eating? I just want to make sure it doesn't go too long cuz its only about 2-3". Thanks

I do believe that is an adonis. I would suggest dropping food near its hiding spot right before lights go out. I feed my carnivorous pleco a mix of algae wafers and massivore. Also if you don't already know, Adonis can grow quite large (over 2' I believe) and from what I understand can be quite aggressive at larger sizes.

I am aware of the large size it can get. That and its color are what actually made me wanna get one because I read that this is one of the few pleco's that "might" be able to live with bichirs. Hopefully it works out. How often should I feed it and should alternate with one day feed it massivore and the next day algae wafers?

I personally have not owned an Adonis. But I feed my pseuda (also carnivorous) once daily just before I shut the lights out. I feed a little of both massivore and algae wafers. I also feed market prawn occasionally. I have done this for several years and have seen typical growth rates and good health.

I love these guys. Just curious have you seen the color on the adults? They look quite different then the small ones but still awesome. Sharkaquarium has some albinos that look sick, that I have been resisting .

The only adults I've seen were pics on google and they were solid black which made me fall in love with it.

Edit: albino ones?! Are they just pretty much pink? I'll have to check them out. Do you know if they're adults or babies?
