I don't consider this odd at all.
Here in Panama cichlids, large Pleco's and tetras are a significant source of protein for inland locals.
I have eaten many.
And peacock bass is quite delicious.
Below cooking P-bass fillets for dinner.

It's a bit different,killing a healthy fish for food is one thing. Eating a dead fish that may have died of disease is another.
