I was having evaporation problems with my 4' x 8' x 1' foot ray pond and was having to top off the tank every cpl of days. I got tired of lugging buckets so i just ran a 1/4" water to the tank and let it run when i fed the rays then shut ot off. Well i hate to admit but yesterday i forgot to shut off the water and today my 3 year old pair of motoros were dead as well as my 8" Dat.

I just got dont burying them in my garden, it really sucks losing pets especially when you have had them for a length of time.

For a little while today i thought about getting rid of all my tanks and getting out of the hobbie, but now i decided i need another chance at rays. Its been a dream of mine for last cpl of years to get them to spawn, so i am now in search of another pair or more of motoros. Ive learned from my mistake, i should have fixed the evaporation problem instead of just adding water.

Man im bummed........i was hoping i would never have to post about how my rays died but unfortunatly today is my day.

:(

Real bad luck mate. Maybe next time if you cant sort your evaporation problems you could fit a float valve to your water feed.

if the set-up allows, make the pond deeper, less rate of evaporation.

the deeper it is the less it will evaporate, and the more water volume youve got, you can add more fish and make water parameters more stable.

this is good,
you made a mistake, realized it and know what needs to be done. now get off your ass and DO IT!! :headbang2  :headbang2 :grinyes:

The thing about it is i knew i would eventually forget to turn that ****ing water off......god im soo mad at myself, knowing i killed them cause i had the stuff rigged. I lost a yellow tang this week too, apparently i have totally pissed off the fish gods.

I really want my rays back, i will get another pair eventually but i still feel awfull. I tried sleeping but i just bawl. A 30 year old man wheeping like a 3 year old. They were my favorite pets of all time and they will be sincerely missed.

Really Sorry to hear of your missfortion:( I know how attached someone can get to those rays as I am completely obsesessed with the hobby, But learn from are misstakes and we become better ray keepers. Hope things go better for You:)

I know how it feels man, it sucks really bad to lose a ray. You learn from your mistakes though, and become better for it. Loseing fish and makeing mistakes are part of the hobby, and they only make you better at what you do. But is sucks to lose fish especially rays.

that's terrible. harsh losses.RIP

Sorry to hear of your loss.

When I do water changes on my saltwater tank, I use a tap water filter to fill a 5 gallon bucket. After forgeting that the water is flowing and a few wet floors later, I now use a kitchen timer to remind me when the bucket is almost full.
