does any one have an idea as to way. not heart broken or any thing just puzzled! :screwy:

Because it could, my fish like Bolivian Rams, Bala shark etc ate my Jack dempsey eggs.
And once the eggs grew to free swimming fry y archer was eating them too!

what I forgot to mention was there the only to cichlids in the tank . had an oscar but the jag beat on him so swapped the convict and oscar (is in his own tank now the convict old home ) I would have expected it from the cat fish but the jag weird. thought he would fertilize them ....

caviar anyone?

Almost all fish, even vegetarians will eat eggs.

Fish eat the eggs of other fish. The Jaguar did not fertilize them because it is not the covict's mate...heck, they are not even the same species. If there is only one convict in there the eggs were infertile and would have stayed that way.

the jag did you a favour you dont have to clean them out now.
its just what happens as advised fish eat other fishes eggs because they are hungry and can.

true i see your point.... think I'll buy three more convict's swap the oscar (6'')back) divided the tank make a few hole's along the bottom for my tsn to still have full range of tank and use the 10gal to breed convict feeder's . witch ever two that don't pair up with mine will be feed to my larger oscar (9'') that sound's like a plane !!!!! thanx's for the inspiration
