ive got one , i dont know if its male or female, can anyone here help identify. sorry i dont got any pics but thats not my total question. its about 9" long to the tail. question is , mine is incredibly mean, if i walk by it it will charge the tank and splash all around with its gills puffed up. i have never seeen anything like it besides a 14" red channa (forgot name). i dont think its mating season cuz its been doing his for years. am i able to put any like-sized fish with it? or are these fish just loners?

a pic would help us say,
heres pics of males and females 1st male second female. you can see the males have a much more spotty pattern females have less.

oh i never heard of a golden jag thats beautiful

not a golden, accually a xanthic jaguar is the one your reffering too- the big yellow one, basically a jaguar born without color genes of any sort so they are yellow, gold jaguars exist but don't resemble this one and imo m's female is not a golden, but rather a normal jaguar, though golden really really resemble normals when it comes down to it, his just doesn't have the sheen or colors the golds really do.

jaguars aren't as aggresive as they are terrtorial IME, my 14" breeding pair aswell as other larger jaguars are only extremely aggresive during breeding, other wise the aggresion i consider just to be normal cichlid behavior.

i used to have it in a 55gal. sorry i dont have pics since itsback at home, but from your help i can see its a male. thx guys

Look at my sig, I have all that in with my jag:) If you are looking for a fish meaner than the jag, both the red devil and the black shark fit that bill:)
