hey guys! i have a 75 gal free and was thinking of getting a jaguar cichlid.. would 1 or 2 fit in a 75? they only get to 16" right? i googled them already i just want more personalized answers.. so..any special conditions for these guys? can i add tankmates? if yes, what would be a good choice? how about oscars? any comments would be greatly appreciated.. i need all the info i could get.. thanks in advance

No fish above 12 inches should be kept in a 4 ft tank IMO. You should be able to keep ONE female Managuense by her self OR ONE male for maybe a year- 1 1/2 years. Depending on growth rate but Managuense require 6 footers after they get to be adults. With an 18 inch wide tank as well.

Reason for my Opinion is that in order to get proper growth to full extent you need to be able to supply ample space for them to grow PLUS a 14" fish is strong bioload on a 75 gallon tank. Nitrates will be going up pretty fast every week and it's going to be hard to keep it under 25ppm+ when it should be 10 and below. You'll see what I mean once you see your fish in a 4 ft tank it looks bad and cramped.

a single jag in a 75 would be stunted some, but no where near as bad as some things ive seen. if you did do it i dont recommend any tank mates, or decor. a single glass banging jag in a 75 would be ok imo. but 2 no way.

i smell what your steppin in. just kind of made me make that funny face and say "huh"

wow thanks for the quick responses.. well for now the 75 will do right? i can upgrade in the future no worries about that.. and no tankmates or decor what else do i need? do you have managuenses? how are they? are they like oscars? i have'nt had a cichlid in 8 years..

not like oscars they get meaner and bigger i have 9ish incher right now and i dont recommend putting one in a 75 unless you get one that is tiny and plan on a larger tank fairly soon. imo you should just get a few fish that will fit in your 75 and wait till you have a larger tank to get a jag. youll probly enoy it more because it will be a more entertaining tank if you have multiple fish and decor... plus you wont have a monstrous bioload from a few smaller fish like you would if you got a big ol jag

i don't suppose i could mix them with hepsutus odoe? or a fahaka? i have larger tanks but all of them are occupied.. what cichlid that looks like a jag would you guys recommend for a 75
