not true...he just wont eat pellets anymore!

i introduced him to frozen blood worms a few weeks ago and ever since he refuses to eat pellets!

he used to gobble them down no problem, but now he completely ignores them...no one else seems to have a problem...

this could get expensive...any idea on how to get him to eat pellets again?! i dont want to have to feed him gourmet all day and i really dont want to have to give him up either...

he has so much potential and i really want to grow him out, but i dont want to have to spend more money on food for my fish than i do on myself!

any suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated!

For now, if you can feed him tilapia
but if you really want him to start eating pellets you could starve him. ( not to long )
a good pellets is hikari by the way.
p.s just don't feed him feeders they are extremely bad for fish.
Just go to the fish market and see if there are any cheap fish meats
if he wont start eating pellets again.

i raised him on hikari gold!

ive tried starving him...i could only stand it for about 4 days until i caved and threw in a bloodworm cube...
he sucked that thing down like my ex girlfri...we wont go there.

and i will never feed my fish feeders unless i bred them myself.

im actually considering letting my firemouth pair breed for the sole purpose of feeding this bad boy.

you dont have to breed your feeders. you can buy them. just make sure there in a quarantine tank for a few weeks with an ich dip and a higher volume of salt. also when you feed your feeders, soak ther food in epsm salts. makes sure they dont have any internal parasites. its a good way to make sure your feeders are as healthy as possible. i have 3 50 gal tanks i use to cycle in feeders and make sure there healthy. my cichlids main diet is hikari gold but feeders or blood worms for maybe 2 times a week

Hmmm. I seem to have that problem also with certain fishes (personality trait). Here's my solution: Never feed them anything but their pellets (your choice of food). I have an arowana like that. He has eaten pellets all his life. One day I decide to buy him some frozen krill. Fed him the krill, he LOVED it. Next day I tried to feed him his pellets and he just spat them out. The goal is to have more will power than your fish. Won't eat pellets? Well then he doesnt get to eat. As long as he is healthy he won't let himself starve to death. Eventually they will come around-especially since he still knows pellets is food. Then when you get him back to eating his pellets NEVER give him the bloodworms again. Some fish don't care and will eat just about anything you offer, then some can have stupid food addiction personalities :irked:. Food can be like drugs to fishes. Once they get a taste they want more and will do anything to get you to give them just another taste! He has probably figured out that if he holds out long enough you will eventually feed him what he wants. Be strong if you want him to eat pellets again or get ready to be his BIYYAATCH!:D

thanks for the advice guys!

if feel like its basically a common sense deal when coming down to the psychological approach with the fish but damn, i just hate seeing a fish with a suken in stomach because he thinks hes too good for my pellets! im no ones beeyatchh let alone some puppy eyed fish!lol

im definitely not going out of my way for the little guy though, but he better start grubbin pellets down soon unless he just wants to hate life.

a quarantine tank strictly for feeders would be sick to have on deck!

i just like feeding my fish a variety thats all...just as is for all life on the planet....Variety is the spice of life!

not to worried about it though, if he doesn't eat he doesn't eat, that's his problem. lol

A healthy fish can go 2 weeks easily without eating and not show signs of losing weight. Bloodworms are like crack for fish. Not that they don't have their place, if I have sick fish that won't eat or if I want to get a fish to eat after a treatment they get bloodworms. If you want variety get some good flakes like prime reef and some freeze dried or frozen blackworms (from california blackworm, he is offering free sample of his FD blackworms). That along with pellets are a good variety.
