I am not sure which section this would go into, but my LFS has a couple of these and after doing as much research as I can, I have found out they are pretty bad a$s. There isnt much info about caring for them.

How big do they get?

What size tank is needed?

Are they healthiest in brackish water?

If you havent heard of this fish just youtube a video of mangrove jacks. They are rediculous. No one has any experience with these fish?

they can adapt to different salinities but I would say mid range brackish is probably best as far as tank size as big as you can prob around 180 minimum and its pretty much a brackish dovii so no tankmates

I have not seen any around in a few years but some of the stores here try to sell little ones as red finned datnoids. They are nice enough when small but they have well developed teeth and know how to put them to good use when they need to.Check the other monster fish section.A guy named JCON has pictures of his along with his other Australian fish.

Ive got a jack, its very agressive but a fantastic fish. I keep mine in full fresh water but they can survive in full salt also.

As juvies they thrive and grow very fast in full fresh, i only add salt when he has injuries from smashing into things while feeding.

They can grow to 1m, ive caught them in north west australia in the wild at 80cm and they are an absolute beast. I've just purchased a 6x2.5x2.5 for my jack which im sure he will outgrow some day. Personally I wouldn't go any smaller than that...

Hide your heater and get thick glass lids too or youll end up with broken glass everywhere, and for god sake dont put any fish you are attached to in the same tank haha.

If they're anything like mangrove/grey snapper they probably would do best in high end brackish or saltwater

Little bit of salt for good measure. I keep mine with 1.5g of salt per liter. Seems to help coloration and as mentioned earlier can be helpful with feeding wounds. Sounds silly but it happens quite a lot

Think big 1 m ish.... i get them every week from Indonesia for my restaurant ,10 kg isn't uncommon for me, I've heard of mucccch bigger on the reefs 20 plus kilos, not sure I'd want to keep one
