I saw some Mangrove shoots in the store the other day and thought about getting one and trying it out since growing plants is another hobby of mine.I havent made up my mind about getting any yet but I welcome any tips or advice on growing and care.

you can get the same effect if you take some aged oak branches and invert them. just gotta make sure no bark is on them and that they are old, not green

they grow pretty slow, your supposed to mist the leaves every day to keep salt creep off them. the green tip should be positioned above water.

Thanks for the quick replies but I think I will stick with mangrove as opposed to oak. What would be best to use as a substrate?

make sure the ones you get are in SW and are healthy at the store
i've bought ones before that were in FW, and they never did too well

if you search it on yahoo you'll get some great bit's of advice or in Anthony Calfo's Coral Propagation the second book has incredible information on everything you would need to know.

A small tip for you, if your tank is too deep to plant the mangrove you can rubber band the top of the mangrove with Styrofoam to keep it afloat. It's not a must that the roots are planted in substrate.

Thanks all.
