Has anyone done this in a tank indoors. I have a friend who has a six foot mangrove tree in a large outdoor tank around 250 gallons. I want to try it inside and in a much smaller tank like a 29gallon i know this sound small but my plans are to keep it well pruned and trained like a bonsai coming out of a tank. I figured I would use a sand substrate with some amout of live rock for filtration. I really dont plan on keeping many fish maybe a goby or something along those lines if i go full salt or a mono or two.

I actually have three small mangroves in a 2 gallon bowl. I have about 4 inches of sand with some gravel mixed in for support. I keep about 2 inches of water above the sand. Ofcorse is salt water I made using instant ocean. You should mist the leaves with FRESH water every day. they release excess salt out through the leaves, so you have to remove it for them. Naturally this would get blown or washed off through wind or wave action. Also I don't think you will need to grow trim them as they are very slow growing indoors. Since you want to grow them for a salt tank make sure you get RED mangroves, there are tree kinds and these grow the closest to the shore line.

I have a 2.5 gallon out side with some fiddeler crabs and a mangrove about 8 inch still a baby. I am trying to grow it tall enuff to transplant in my 29 GSpuffer tank indoor. I need it in my 29 to control my alge.
