Has anyoine used mangroves in your freshwater tank to reduce nitrates? Red or black? Do they require salt? How fast do they grow and can I cut them back when too large? Any info you have will help. I just thought that the roots would look good in the background.

Mangrove will grown in freshwater but extremely slow. I think the black grow quicker in freshwater. But as a nitrate reducer red is better. I have some red in my brackish tank and it has taken forever.

Don't let the leaves get in the water they are toxic to your aquarium.
