I'm going to start a mantis shrimp tank i had a few questions
i plan on getting a peacock mantis and a dwarf lionfish
and i was wondering how big of tank (i want to get a long)
and what should i do for clean up crew
and can i have coral and or anemones

I personally would risk a fish as expensive as a dwarf lion with a mantis.. damsels, sure, a clown maybe. but not a $40-50 lion..
well a 29 is kind minimal for just the mantis so let's say like a 75 ROUGH GUESS!!!!

echinoderms i beleive are relatively safe from mantids. and in a larger tank you could keep snails and hermits alove for quite a while i would think

they have dwarfs and fuzy dwarfs at my lfs for $24 and even a fu man chu (which suprised me) for $54

if you're willing to risk it by all means go ahead...

corals are kinda iffy as the mantis will want to move them around for his burrow, and of course he doesn't care if they are upsidedown, half buried in sand, get no light etc...

well ill teach him style, asthetics, manners and flips!

hah but what if i pre make a burrow for him?

He might not accept the pre meade burrow, if anything he would probably destroy it. If you let him establish a burrow first then add corals out of his way that would probably be a better idea.

lololololol destroy it?
what he does not like, he destroyyyysss.....

hm so if he makes a burrow then i add to it or purdy it up
andddd he doesnt like it he will destroy it?

i made what i thought would be absolutely IDEAL, eutopian even, borrow or at least a place to burrow for a jawfish i got, and he just decided to put his waste sand there and build one behind the powerhead instead...
giving him something like a half sunken PVC pipe MIGHT help keep him stayed put, but he will still pull rocks (rocks you think are too big for him to move) and 'decorate' his burow... remeber underwater a 4-5 pound rock weighs almost nothing...

adding coral later may also work ut they are very regularly actively fixing their homes. not to mention they are very curious and would investigate whatever new objects are put in there, not you mention you'll never see me put my hand anywhere in a tnk with a maits in it :D

i would do everything at your own right, somepeople gte away with it some people waste $300 in fish and coral trying.. the choice is all yours....
