Ok, I want to do a mantis shrimp in a 30gal. But will regular lights work or will i need a certain amount of watts? And how much live rock should I put in the tank? Would 45lbs work? my plans are

Skimmer: Coral Life super skimmer
Lighting: Probably what I have now unless I need 2+ wpg
Filter: Just live rock and skimmer
Heater:Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA SmartHeater 50 Watt
Substrate: 3-4" of sand
Powerhead:Hydor Koralia Magnum 6 Circulation Pump/Powerhead 2200 gph
No corals in this tank but maybe when I get a bigger salt tank.

Those are my plans! No filter because imma aim the powerheads at the live rock and use that as a filter!

Also any corrections or other info hook me up plz I never kept a mantis before or salt for that matter... So it would be greatly appreciated especially if you have kept them before.

You will not need any special lighting for the Mantis Shrimp. A good flourecent will bring out the color of a nice Peacock Mantis. Every thing else you suggest seems ok. Just provide a good cave or two for the Mantis. I have heard of people burying large pvc pipe under the sand for the shrimp to live in.

Thats what I thought thnaks for the info! I kinda want a rarer kind but dont know where to look n find them cheap...

Ok, My picks of mantis are
Tiger mantis
Zebra mantis
Peacock(common...)
Orange spot mantis
purple spot mantis

My thoughts are between zebra and tiger... anyone ever kept either of these. And how did you like them?

Be sure to give them lots of rubble to move around.

Well the skimmer is also a major overload. So it will also be major. If the [pwerhead is too much then Imma just leave it out cause I plan on using the skimmer and power head for a biger tank when I upgrade. N ill get a new power head n skimmer for that one. Thats my plan

anything else I may need?
