i would like to keep one peacock mantis shrimp in the 30 gallon i have laying around this is my first sw tank but my dad has done numerous, what i would like to know is is this tank adequate, and do mantis need anything in particular that a reg saltwater tank does not? also on good site for info on stompods?

Wow that sounds like a SCary Pet Shrimp to Keep! =^___^=
think the minimemum size is 25-30gal. Should be okay i think =D
CAn reach 7" Long! Fun Fun! And Eats Yummy Yummy Live Food and other crab, snails, crayfish and Friends =D Just no mixing with other live stuff and most corals, Mr Mantis Shrimp is a very picky interior designer! even if if u try to show him ur designs he'll say no no no and always insist on his way. Best not to mess with his designs or else hell smash ur hand apart! Eeekk =S

=^___^=

Also make sure ur tank glass is very thick and strong, other wise mr shrimp can turn into.. Dont touch me! Hammer Time! *Dances then breaks glass*

I think these guys are pretty hardy to keep! No Kidding! =^___^=

lol your very......chipper thankyou for the info

a 30 gallon would be great.. all they need is at least 4'' of sand and a few rocks to make a burrow under..

no special lighting, filters, etc..
MAYBE some certain elemental suppliments but frequent water changes should be enough to handle that

I vote for the HAppy MAntis Shrimp to Own the Octopus! His Clickign sounds make him like the PReditor in AVP movie!! =^__^= Cept hmm maybe the octopus should be the predator cuz he has teh stealth thing and the MAntis shrimp should be the Alien cuz itz more ALien / zergling body like =^___^=
