So for x-mas i have been given a biocube 14 and I've had it running for four weeks or so now. In the tank now I have two O. Clownfish and a skunk cleaner, all 3 given to me from a friend, plus the CUC (dwarf red tips, cerith snails, etc.). And I've really wanted a mantis shrimp for quite some time, but i'm trying to figure out if my LFS would be willing to get one for me? I don't really have a preference between any of the medium sized smashers, they are all equal in my heart:D. Just wondering which is the easiest to care for?

Won't a mantis eat your clownfish and your shrimp?

I don't usually see the peacock mantises at the wholesalers, but the black ones are pretty common. Your store can order them for sure. However, I'm not sure if they're spearers or smashers.

I'm not really worried about the clowns, the shrimp maybe, but if i had the choice between the two, i'd go for the mantis.

I agree the mantis will take down your clownfish, but its more likely a spearer will then a smasher. But I still think either way they will go down eventually.

Hmm, guess i'll have to try and find a home for the clowns, but stomatopods are defiantly the most interesting thing i can think of that can fit into a biocube 14.

yea other wise once you get rid of the clowns you will be ok to add a mantis shrimp. Stotmapods.com has them for sale once in a while but always sell out fast

I didn't know that website still worked, i thought its been down for awhile.

Can you keep them with corals? Maybe I'll get one for my 20...

I've seen set ups where smashers are kept with fish. As long as you keep your smasher well fed, it shouldn't go after fish.

cool, i guess i'll ask my lfs for a N. wennerae or G. Smithii, i'm guessing the wennerae will be less expensive.
