Do manueli actually reach large sizes when grown out in home aquaria? Or they more like rhoms where they don't reach their potential if purchased at a smaller size? thanks

its all down to water quality in my opinion, i kept a manny but unfortunatly lost him at 6 inches... run a drip system an uv inc good filtration and a massive tank like the ray boys.. then you will get the max sizes, p's are easily stunted imo..

They will grow big. But it takes years. One of the most rewarding fish to keep.

This guy still has his, it's been over 10 years.

I'd say diet/nutrition attributes a lot as well as water quality, water volume, temperature, flow/current, male/female and tank mates. Proper research, experience, dedication and husbandry will almost always equate to a happy/healthy fish!

If your piranha is not a pygo it takes a lot of patience, time and dedication to grow these guys out, many owners get bored with them too.

Nice fish and great dedication smoke!

I've read they're one the largest piranhas but all the ones ive seen have been the same size as other 'average' piranhas like 6 to 9 inches.
i want one real bad though.. i just need to advance my knowledge and set ups before i can take one on. i dont want the fish to suffer from MY lack of experience...let alone the wasted expenses if he KOs. they're expensive!

supposedly 13.5 inch

They do grow larger than rhoms in home aquaria. Rhoms seem to top out at 9-10" if grown in a tank, where I've seen multiple examples of 13+" manueli. I doubt you'll be able to grow them to max wild size, but they definitely will get very large. Takes forever though.

I'd love to have another and actually stick with growing him out. I miss mine, they're easily the best looking piranha of all.
