as we all know all standard manufacture aquariums they claim the gallons that was listed.. did anyone check if it's correct or not?? give it an example a standard 180 gal is 72 x 24 x 24h... that's 180 gallons, but when you measure it correctly that's ONLY the plastic Frame of the tank... Now if you measure the inside dimension of the tank where the water is stored it's really 71.25 x 23.25 x 23.5h that makes 169gallons.. that's only if you fill the tank to the top plastic bracing... so i'm little confused here.. now if i do the same for my 300 gal tank it's really even smaller...

I like your thought but then you have to do all other calculations that take up water volume. Sand, driftwood, rocks, and fish take up volume so take away another 10-20 gallons on a 180
I never worried too much about gallons. The dimensions of the tank are mire important to me. A 6L x 2W x 2H are totally different than a 2L x 2W x 6H.....

Totally agree but then you after add volume of water in your filters, sump, canisters, etc. it's probably easier to manufacture even out side dimensions than add for the glass thickness. I think its more about tank dimensions than total water volume, basically everyone knows a 180 is 6x2x2.
I've accepted that the tank size is actually based off the tank itself and not what it can actually hold.
A half gallon of ice cream is 1.75 quarts.

Yup my 160 comes out to 157 water volume ( just water)
I call it a 150 after I have it filled out with fish and other plants/wood/substrate/sponge filters.
I don't count the filters as volume because the fish can't use it for space.
With the filters it's probably back up to 157 water volume. And was less then that even with the 30 G sump, as I had about 300 Lbs of rocks in it.
So yes, like the pumps that miss lead you by saying X amount of GPH ( they never list that this is off of a unrestricted output head right off of the pump) tank makers do the same thing.
