Manzanita Wood Question??

Well don't quote me cause its just collected knowledge, but if you properly clean almost anything you can put it in water long as it does not contain hazardous minerals or metals. Look up what minerals are bad from fish and just stay clear. I have a friend that uses all kinds of wood even out of lakes that look just rotten and they never hurt anything. I have even though of using that type of wood but haven't found the perfectly shaped piece cause I'm meticulous by nature. But in my opinion, boil it or soak it in really hot water a couple times and you should be kicking good to go! Post picks of it when you do I'm sure everyone will have some branching ideas off of yours :) good luck

Yeah dude. As long as the wood is not painted with anything you should be cool.

Well kinda. Some woods rot more than others. Some release more tannins and will taint the color of the water to a yellowish hue and drop the PH of the water.

Manzanita is amazing in that it is low tannin and extremely hard which prevents rotting. I would soak it for a few weeks or you will have to weigh it down in order to get it to sink. Boiling can work if it is small enough but I don't think it is necessary. Whatever you do don't use chemicals like bleach to clean it....
